Prof. Philip Antwi-Agyei is a Professor and the Director, Office of Grants and Research at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi. As a Commonwealth Scholar, Prof. Antwi-Agyei obtained his PhD from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom in 2013. He also holds a Master of Science from the University of Hull, United Kingdom, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom. He obtained his Bachelor of Science from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi. In 2020, Philip graduated from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, Saltpond, with a Diploma in Theology.
A renowned interdisciplinary scientist, Prof. Antwi-Agyei was appointed to the United Nations High Level Panel of Experts on Building Resilient Food Systems Report of the World Committee on Food Security in September 2024. His served as a Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5 oC. Philip is a Visiting Research Associate at the Environmental Change Institute, Oxford University, United Kingdom.
Prof. Antwi-Agyei has over 20 years of university teaching, research and administrative experiences and has published extensively with over 100 peer reviewed articles on climate change issues in reputable peer reviewed international journals. He is widely travelled and has presented his research outputs in several international conferences and workshops.
As a result-oriented researcher, Prof. Antwi-Agyei is a recipient of several prestigious international awards and grants including the International Foundation for Science (2010–2013), Climate Impacts Research Capacity and Leadership Enhancement Fellowship (2015–2016) funded by the UK’s Department for International Development, and Science for Weather Information and Forecasting Techniques (2016–2021) funded by the Global Challenge Research Fund. He has also won grants under the Climate Research for Development (2019–2021), an initiative of the African Climate Policy Centre in partnership with the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development. Additionally, Philip has received awards under the Future Leaders–Africa Independent Research Fellowships (2020–2023) and Collaboration Grants (2022–2023) funded by the Royal Society, London.
In his professional capacity, Prof. Antwi-Agyei has provided consultancy services for leading international and national organisations including the United Nations Development Programme, the International Institute for Sustainable Development, Canada, Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Environmental Protection Agency, to mention but a few. He has played pivotal role in influencing policy for climate change adaptation in Ghana including developing National Adaptation Plan Framework and the National Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan for the Infrastructure Sector.
Prof. Antwi-Agyei is an accredited Minister of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, and currently serves as the Campus Pastor for the Assemblies of God Campus Ministry (AGCM), KNUST Chapter. Philip is an Adjunct Lecturer at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, Saltpond, and serves on the Governing Board of the Assemblies of God Institute of Higher Learning (AGIHL), Kumasi.
Prof. Antwi-Agyei is married to Mrs. Jemima Antwi-Agyei, and they are blessed with four (4) children.
