Dr. Gideon Ofosu-Peasah is an Energy Economist and Extractives Analyst with a strong background in natural resource governance, policy analysis, and investigative research. His expertise spans the intersections of energy, climate finance, extractive sector governance, and security-sensitive resource management.
Dr. Ofosu-Peasah earned a PhD focusing on Energy Security and Climate Action in West Africa from the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Ghana, and holds an MSc in Economics, a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Management and is a Certified Climate Finance Expert from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and Technische Universität Dresden, and the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, Germany respectively
Dr. Ofosu-Peasah has played a key role in shaping media oversight on Ghana’s extractive resources and revenues. He hosted Business Edition on Starr 103.5 FM, covering energy, mining, and sustainability issues. He has trained over 100 journalists from major media organizations—including Media General, Multimedia, and the Ghana Community Radio Network—on oil and gas, data-driven, and investigative journalism. Five journalists he trained won prestigious awards at the Ghana Journalism Awards and the Institute of Finance and Economic Journalism Awards in 2017.
His expertise has been instrumental in various capacities, including serving as an Expert on Ghana’s Oil, Gas, and Mining Sector, a Technical Consultant (Oil & Gas) for the National Energy Quiz, and a Policy Analyst. His influence extends into policy and governance, where he has played a critical role in shaping Ghana’s extractive sector.
As Coordinator for the Civil Society Working Group on Ghana’s First Oil Block Licensing Round, he worked to ensure transparency and accountability in resource governance. His involvement with the Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining positioned him at the forefront of Ghana’s fight against environmental degradation. Additionally, his roles as a member of the Political Economy Group on Ghana’s Extractive Sector and the UENR Governing Council highlight his contributions to policy analysis and institutional development.
Dr. Ofosu-Peasah has consulted for renowned organizations such as the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime, Natural Resource Governance Institute, Star Ghana Foundation, and DW Akademie. His work for these organisations spanned illicit economies, land-related conflicts, illegal arms trade, gold smuggling, and the security implications of artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM).
He has published over thirty working papers, academic journal articles, policy briefs, and op-eds, contributing to policy discourse through media appearances, including Al Jazeera. His influence in Ghana’s energy and governance landscape was recognized when he was listed among the Top Seven Rising Energy Stars at the 2018 Ghana Energy Awards.
In addition to his professional engagements, he is deeply involved in faith-based leadership training for churches and corporate organisations. He is a pastor, teacher, and marriage counsellor with Assemblies of God Ghana (Holy Ground Assembly), National Instructor and Southern Sector Director for Royal Rangers, where he focuses on evangelism and discipleship for young people.
