Dr. Affail Monney is a distinguished Journalist, Media Consultant, and Communications Strategist with over four (4) decades of experience in Broadcasting, Media Leadership, and Public Advocacy. As the CEO and Founder of RAM Media Consult and the Vice President of Strategic Communications at DeepGEO Incorporated, a Nuclear Power Development Company, he plays a crucial role in shaping Strategic Communication Policies. He also serves as a Board Member of Assemblies of God Bookshops Limited and as the Vice President (Anglophone Africa) of the Union of Journalists for Africa Free Press. In addition, he is a Fellow of the Frimpong-Manso Institute (FMI) and a Church Board Member at the End Time Revival Centre, Assemblies of God, Adenta Estate, Accra.
Previously, Dr. Monney served as the President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) from 2013 to 2022, leading efforts to promote press freedom, ethical journalism, and media professionalism in Ghana. He was also a Commissioner of the National Media Commission from 2018 to 2022 and the Director of Radio at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) from 2013 to 2016. His leadership extended to several key organizations, including the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition, the Right to Information Coalition, the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, and the Public Interest and Accountability Committee.
Dr. Monney’s journalism career began at GBC Radio in 1980, where he progressed from a reporter to Editor, Chief Editor, Head of News & Current Affairs, and ultimately Acting Director of GBC Radio. He gained recognition for his expertise in political reporting, investigative journalism, and media ethics. His tenure as a Presidential Correspondent saw him covering the administrations of President Hilla Limann from 1981 to 1982 and President Jerry John Rawlings from 1982 to 1987.
Beyond his work in journalism, Dr. Monney has provided consultancy services to international organizations such as the World Bank, UNICEF, the Electoral Commission of Ghana, the Ghana AIDS Commission, and Child Rights International. His contributions to public broadcasting laws, electoral reporting, and waste management projects reflect his broad expertise in media governance and policy development.
As an academic, he has lectured and served as a resource person at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, GBC Radio Training School, and Knutsford University College, focusing on journalism ethics, media governance, and communication leadership. His scholarly contributions include presenting over 35 papers on journalism ethics, disaster risk reduction, electoral reporting, media freedom, child rights, and gender advocacy at conferences across Africa and beyond.
Dr. Monney has also participated in significant national and international assignments. He was a member of Ghana’s delegation to India and Uganda to study private-sector participation in power and served as part of the Eminent Persons Group for Ghana’s 2020 General Elections. As an ECOWAS election observer, he contributed to election monitoring in Niger in 2020 and 2021. In 2021, he was invited to an international panel marking the 30th anniversary of the Windhoek Declaration in Namibia.
Throughout his career, Dr. Monney has conducted exclusive interviews with notable global figures, including former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Rwandan President Paul Kagame, former Liberian President Dr. Amos Sawyer, and multiple Ghanaian Presidents, including J.J. Rawlings, J.A. Kufuor, and J.E.A. Mills.
His academic background includes a Postgraduate Diploma in Communication Studies from the University of Ghana and a Diploma in Journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism. He also holds a Diploma (Distinction) from the International Organization of Journalists School in Prague. He is also a product of the Graduate School of Leadership and Governance, GIMPA (2008 – 2010). Additionally, he has received professional training in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and has participated in over 40 workshops and International Conferences on Media Ethics, Journalism Standards, Election Reporting, and National Security.
Dr. Monney’s contributions to journalism and media leadership have been widely recognized. He was honoured with the Global Leadership Award (Media) in 2011 and received an Honorary Doctorate in 2013 for his role in advancing the media’s impact on church growth and societal development.
